With the Glyn Charles pursuit race running on the Saturday only 8 boats turned up to the First day of the Weston open. Three races were run on the Saturday in a steady 15-20 knots coming from the south, which only allowed the race officer to lay a relatively short course up to the deep water channel. The fleet of 8 was joined by another 5 boats on the Sunday.

The race officer got the first race away promptly, with Andy Jeffries and Tom Trueman falling foul of an individual recall. Chris Webber and John Baldwin showed great pace to take the win from Spod Olive and Guy Fillmore and third went to Rob Watson and John Clifton.

Race two got away cleanly, Andy and Tom started on port and rounded the top mark first, but let Spod & Guy and Rob & John through after one of many kite trawling episodes. Spod & Guy led all the way to the finish, Rob & John won the battle for second with Andy & Tom coming third.

With ruthless efficiency the race officer started race three, Rob & John taking line honours Spod & Guy second and Andy and Tom third.

A fleet of 13 boats were on the start line for race five, which was won by Spod & Guy with Chris & John coming second and Neil Baker and James Hughes coming third.

Neil & Uzi effortlessly sailed away from the fleet in race six leaving Rob & John, Chris & John and Andy & Tom battling hard for the second spot. Andy & Tom squeezed through Rob & John and Chris & John on a tight leeward mark rounding which left Rob & John swimming. Neil & Uzi got the bullet, Andy & Tom second and Chris & John third.

The last race of the day was led from the start by Chris & John, which they held until the last beat when they capped sized allowing the rest of the fleet to sail away. The win went to Rob & John with Neil & Uzi second and third going to Spod & Guy.
